Why is attacking Christ/Christians the default position of a cornered atheist?

Like even if you make less than no mention of theology of any kind at all, many if not most atheists will inevitably turn to a personal disdain for Christ as if there aren't millions of worldviews in the world that contradict atheism? Is that just a byproduct of the long running reverse psychology tactics used by theosophists to lure the mass specifically into Christ-hate?
