Where do you draw the line for alternate spellings?

I prefer keeping a name as close the the original spelling as possible. Example of Michaela, its intended as a feminine form of Michael. So I think Mikhalia, Mykaila, Mikayla or whatever other "creative" versions are weird because there aren't many Michaels spelled Mikhal or Mykail.
