What counts as archaeological experience?

I'm interested in archeology so I was sifting through job requirements to evaluate what courses to take in college. Every opening said that I had to have a minimum of 1 year of Archaeological fieldwork experience to be eligible. What counts as experience? And could I get it at a regular university, or would I have to specifically go to a field school?
