Is there volunteer work for archaeology in saint louis area?

Well I am 18 looking to go to college,and the only reason to go to college for me is for something I want,and the only thing I think I want to do is practice archaeology. So basically I want to volunteer to see if I like it maybe put that on a resume to get a job to pay for college or help with experience post college to pay the BILLS. I was thinking about asking the head at washington about this but dont wanna look like a jerk
